Texas
Music with a Caribbean Flavor
Island Texas is a unique combination of
friends and family from the Austin-San Antonio are who play what
they call Texas Music with a Caribbean flavor. Fans hear everything from
Texas 2-step shuffles with steel guitars to island
reggae beats with Caribbean steel drums
and Latin percussion. The wide variety of groovin' beats with an edge, fun
favorites, Spanish trumpets and even tunes
with Scottish bagpipes gives an audience of all ages and musical tastes
something to dance to. The new Island Texas CD entitled "Sailing Again"
has a south of the border laid back tropical vibe but yet has the Texas
music feel and is a diverse addition to any music collection.

Captain
Burko and Island Texas play their own fun variety of what they call "Texas
Country Surfin' Caribbean Reggae Rock & Roll Island Music" that appeals to
a wide range of audiences. Original music, old stuff, new stuff,
fast and slow, Island Texas
plays it! Lots of Buffett too......... This dynamic and diverse band is great
for private events, weddings, Texas country dance halls, Buffett style island
parties and everything in between.
Island Texas must be the
only band to include Scottish bagpipes and Caribbean steel drums. What
a combo! Fans love the bagpipe tunes. Everyone has a great time at an Island
Texas show.
 Who is Captain
Burko?
Captain Burko
is a fictitious character played by Ken Burks (who plays the percussion, bagpipes
and trumpet) that originated from his name being misspelled in a yacht
club newsletter before the band even started. (Ken Burko instead of Ken Burks.) Well, the accidental nickname was quickly used by friends and family and later
evolved into Captain Burko. . .
